Collapsing Qubits is a card game designed for players ages 9-99 as a fun way to build intuition about quantum concepts!
Our companion game, Quander, is an on-line multi-game quantum universe.
Byte, the nefarious genius next-door neighbor dog, is threatening to ruin life as we know it. Decrypt his secret messages to discover his plan and stop him before it's too late! If you are the one to stop him, you will get fame, fortune, and the admiration of the masses!
Luckily, you have access to the latest technology - a quantum computer. To decrypt the messages, your computer can't have any errors. And with so many qubits, which are sensitive to the slightest disturbance, it will take all of your wits to prevent their collapse!
Outwit Byte and your opponents to protect your computation and stop him ... before it's too late!

Qubits are made with different technologies, and some are more tolerant to heat than others. Super-cooled computers need to operate far below freezing!
Heat
Qubits are sensitive to magnetism. Superconducting qubits are the most sensitive, whereas neutral atoms are more naturally resistant.
Magnets
Vibrations come from either from movement or sound. At the Taylor Swift concerts, she provides the sound, and the audience provides the movement!
Vibrations
Radiation enters the atmosphere from outer space. - and strong flashlights!
Radiation
The most shielded spot is the Sanford Underground Research Facility. It was built deep underground in South Dakota. Under ground shields it from radiation, and South Dakota has few earthquakes.
We protect from vibrations by building in a location without earthquakes, sound-proofing the room, and using vibration dampeners. During COVID, with no one in the building, quantum computers worked much better!
mu-metal is a new type of metal that shields from magnetic fields, whereas cardboard and a mesh box are used to shield from radiation.
Particles can be in superposition of their position - some probability of multiple locations. One location could be on the other side of a barrier - but with low probability. However, if that low probability occurs, then it has tunneled.
Quantum Shuffle isn't a shuffle at all -
It is actually a form of algebra (math).
But it's fun for this game, at least!
